Meet the Fosters: Navigating Life One Wave at a Time

For most people, the "American Dream" involves a suburban home and a steady 9-to-5. But for Matt, and Nancy, the dream looks a bit different—specifically, it’s 40 feet long and made of fiberglass. Known to their growing community as The Foster Journey, this adventurous family has traded the stability of land for a life of simplicity and exploration aboard their sailboat, SV Cadence.

From Suburbia to the Sea

The Fosters aren't your typical retirees or "trust fund" travelers. They are a hardworking family—nomads who work and build their lives while navigating the seas. Their journey began in Texas, driven by a desire to simplify their existence and see the world through a different lens.

They live by a clear mission: simplicity while traveling. By documenting their daily triumphs and the inevitable challenges of boat maintenance, they provide a transparent look at what it’s actually like to raise a family on the water.

Life Aboard SV Cadence

Their home, SV Cadence, is a 39’10” vessel from Catalina, America's largest sailboat manufacturer. As their first sailboat, Cadence has been both a home and a classroom. From learning the technicalities of sailing to performing essential upgrades—like their recent water filtration installation—the Fosters share every lesson learned with their "Virtual Crew."

Join the Journey

The Fosters aren’t just traveling for themselves; they’ve built a vibrant digital community. You can follow their adventures across several platforms:

  • Weekly Vlogs: Catch their latest episodes on YouTube, where they share the beauty of locations like The Bahamas and the US East Coast.

  • The Captain’s Hour: A monthly Zoom meeting where supporters can connect directly with the family.

  • Live Tracking: For those who want to see exactly where the winds have taken them, they maintain a Live GPS Map of their current location.

Whether they are slow-sailing through Long Island or working from their floating office, the Fosters prove that "living life to the fullest" isn't about where you are, but how you choose to journey through it.

Central Asia vs Scandinavia & the Baltics: Which Journey Is Right for You?

Two Roads Less Traveled — But Very Different Roads Most travelers who come to us aren't choosing between Paris and Rome. They're after something rarer — a journey that stays with them. Over the years, two regions have defined what we do: the ancient Silk Road corridors of Central Asia, and the wind-scoured coastlines of Scandinavia and the Baltic states. Both reward the curious traveler. But they offer almost entirely different rewards. This guide breaks down the key differences — landscape, history, logistics, cost, and traveler type — so you can decide which calls to you first. Our take: If you're drawn to turquoise domes rising from desert plains and the feeling that you're standing somewhere most people will never go, Central Asia is your answer. If you want drama and deep history delivered with reliable infrastructure and long summer light, look north to Scandinavia and the Baltics. The Regions at a Glance ...
